Background:
Carolina is a Resident in Counseling born in Peru and raised in Northern Virginia, bringing over five years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across community mental health and nonprofit settings. She completed her bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish and earned her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Mason University. As a bilingual, first-generation Latina, Carolina carries a personal and professional understanding of what it means to navigate two cultures simultaneously — balancing family expectations, identity, and belonging in ways that many clients recognize immediately as their own experience. She is one of a small number of clinicians at Crescent able to provide therapy fully in Spanish, making her an important point of access for clients who want to do this deeply personal work in their first language.
Approach:
Working under clinical supervision, Carolina blends CBT, narrative therapy, solution-focused approaches, and mindfulness techniques within a warm, direct, and culturally affirming framework. She is developing particular interest in perinatal mental health — including the emotional and identity shifts that accompany pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and early parenthood — as well as the unique pressures faced by immigrant and first-generation clients navigating high expectations from multiple directions at once. Carolina believes therapy should feel like a genuine partnership, and works to create a space where clients feel understood not just as individuals but as whole people shaped by culture, community, and lived experience.
Just for fun:
Outside of work, Carolina enjoys spending time with her family, baking, and watching classic Disney movies.
