Background:
Shannon is one of the proud co-founders of Crescent Counseling Center, established in 2021 with a shared vision of building a practice where both clients and clinicians can genuinely thrive. A New Jersey native, she moved to the Washington, DC area for her education, earning both her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. Shannon holds a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) — a specialized credential that reflects her deep commitment to supporting individuals through one of life's most profound and often underserved transitions: the journey into and through parenthood.
Approach:
Shannon's therapeutic style is warm, direct, and grounded in a strength-based, solution-focused philosophy. She helps clients identify and gently challenge the thought patterns that keep them stuck, creating a judgment-free space where clients feel genuinely empowered to define their own direction and outcomes. As a PMH-C certified clinician, Shannon brings particular depth to perinatal and postpartum mental health — including the emotional complexity of new parenthood, the often-invisible weight of caregiver fatigue, and the identity shifts that accompany becoming a mother. Her work with women navigating these transitions is both clinically informed and deeply human.
Just for fun:
Outside of work, Shannon enjoys spending time with her puppy, playing volleyball, and singing loudly when she has the house to herself.
Shannon Dufour is licensed to practice psychotherapy in Virginia.
