Vacation: All I Ever Wanted

After a few weeks of a series of unfortunate events, I found myself thinking "Man, I need a vacation."  So, I packed up the car and headed north to visit my family for a day.  After 24 hours of chatting on the porch, ice cream, and a Taylor Swift themed work out class, I came home feeling refreshed.  And that is when it hit me, a vacation is not a place, it's a mindset.


When we think of summer vacations, we often times associate a break with a specific place.  When we can't access that specific idea for whatever reason, I think we feel as though we cannot relax or recharge.  A vacation does not have to be a specific place with specific people during a set period of time during the hot summer months.  It can be something simple that fills up your cup and helps you feel like you can tackle reality again.


What I learned during my 24 hour "vacation" to my hometown in Pennsylvania was that needed to yap with my safe people and to move my body in a joyful way.  I needed to create a vacation mindset in a vacuum.  Sometimes a vacation is simply a time to rest, recharge, and feel like we had an escape from our day to day lives.  That doesn't necessarily need to be an extensive time away in an exotic location (though, that is nice too!).


Do you love the beach? Head to Burke Lake Park to soak in the sun and be by the water.  Do you love the mountains? Great Falls has some pretty spectacular views! What about a lavish European vacation? Old Town Alexandria has just about every kind of food there is to offer.  You can access what a vacation means to you in microscopic scale to help you bridge that gap until the opportunity arises to take a classic trip.  Explore what you love most about a vacation and find a way to either do a "stay-cation" or have a self-care day that reflects that.
